Overview: |
For years employers have periodically provided employees
with training on preventing sexual harassment and
other forms of workplace discrimination. Such training
interventions have been typically viewed as beneficial,
optional and not an absolute requirement. This is
no longer the case; in 1998 and 1999 the US Supreme
Court issued three landmark rulings that sent a clear
message to employers that training employees on sexual
harassment prevention is an absolute necessity. The
number of sexual harassment and discrimination cases
filed per year tripled from 1990 – 2000. At
the same time, the average cost of resolving a single
claim – which includes verdict settlement cost,
attorneys’ fees, and the cost of employee time
responding to the claim - routinely cost an employer
hundreds of thousands of dollars. Research shows that
effective harassment and discrimination prevention
training can greatly reduce or prevent such cost to
employers.
This interactive training helps employees become
aware of potentially harassing behaviors for which
they could be held responsible. The training will
allow participants to gain knowledge through role-play,
videos, and case studies and apply key principles
to their work settings.
